Art preservation
Preserving your art work is one of the most important stages of the art process. Art preservation is a mind-set, it is up to the individual artist, Liberian, art historian, and collectors to give the art work the proper care to the art work. This post is going to look at, art preservation from the perspective of the artists, and from having a limited budget.
The preservation proses is the same as anything you do in life; what you put in is what you get out! With this said, it does not mean you have to break the bank, or put in hours of hard work. The best preservation is prevention. Where to start, is all ways the hardest part of any job. I have found that by turning the task that I have to do, in to a question I am able to get results quickly and effortlessly. “How do I prevent my art work from getting damaged”?
Answer:
- Studying preservation techniques.
- Buy enclosures.
- Make custom enclosures.
- Designate an area for storage.
Preserving your art is as easy as that. The answers will differ from artist to artist; the medium you work in, environmental conditions, and your geographical location will determine the steps you will take, to preserve your art work.

Dear Apfrier,
Thank you very much for your interest in my paintings by F*E* Taylor. Rather like you, I have experienced teething problems with building my wordpress sites. Unforunately, I pressed the wrong button at the wrong time and lost all the entries I had wriiten on https://uniquewales.worpress.com
I found a way to see them on my own computer but when I tried to save and publish, they were nowhere to be seen again.
The answer was to build a new site – https://UniquePaintingsofWales.wordpress.com
I have found that once you have found out what NOT to do, wordpress is considerably easier than the site I had been battling with for 10 years, and I had been paying for that one!
I hope you will keep an eye on my site and its sister Unique sites which I hope to build slowy as time allows. I am working steadily to list more than 50 Welsh subjects by F*E* Taylor before I go on to prepare to next 150 of England and Europe.

Thank you very much indeed for following Unique Paintings of Wales so closely.
Ken WELLs’ painting of the View from Roman Bridge, Penmachno is more recent than most of the pictures I have. Nevertheless, it has a lovely feel to it and one of ‘en plein aire’.
It is not large, but one mounted and framed, it will still make a significant contribution to the decor of any room.
Modern homes have much parger windows these days and correspondingly less wall space for us to fill with pictures.
What is important though, is to be very careful not to allow the sun to leach the colour from pictures.
I think this is the main reason for paintings being hung so high on the walls of stately homes.
I am working hard to get paintings listed on Unique Paintings of Wales.
I must also get on with Unique England, Unique Scotland, Unique Europe, Unique Every Where Else (I gave up trying to use world, globe, planet etc) and Unique Marine Paintings.
I must also think about Unique Illustrations after a recent aquisition.
Perhaps I need reminding – What is retirement all about?
Still if I can’t enjoy my paintings how can I expect other people to?

Thank you very much for noticing Joan Newman’s painting of Ynyslas from Aberdyfi. As an amateur member of our local Art Society, I think she has captured the evening feel very well indeed.
I don’t know whether you can get any British TV programmes where you live, but a Welsh series called Hinterland may be available for you to watch on YouTube. The first series features the boatyard where the building are in the pictures. You will get a sense of hoe isolated some people are in our very thinly populated area.
Yes, it looks as if all three series are available, but remember that itis all about Wales south of the River Dyfi (Dovey) which is somewhat different to our part north of the river – Here is the linkto the first series:

Thank you very much indeed for your continued interest in my paintings of Wales. I think that, including those painings of F*E* TAYLOR, there are nerly 30 listed at the moment.
A quick way to work through them is, when i=on the HOME page, move your cursor to GALLERY. When it is over GALLERY, the sub-heading F*E*TAYLOR will appear. You then have a choice – either click on the main GALLERY or the sub-heading. Once the main GALLERY or the sub-heading opens, you can click on any painting you may be interested in to be taken the the details for that painting.
There are so many images on the site that it may cause it to be somewhat slower than you expect.
Todays listings include two by Harold Bailey, The Dwyryd Estuary and The Shore at Llwyngwril. They show that some artists took the trouble to seek out some of the more unusual subjects to paint. The results must have been very rewarding for them and continue to be really appealing.

These two views of Llanegryn are unusual because it is such a small village. It does have a church dedicated to St Egryn of course.It is not famous for anything or anybody, except perhapsfor Geraint Jenkins, author of ‘Nets and Coracles’ a superbly detaild books about Welsh salmon and sea trout fishing techniques It seems that the village is there purely because it is situated where the upland drover’s road decends and close to the river crossing.
The drovers would have folded their animals for the night and probably, in those days, had a skinfull of ale from a pub which is no longer.
Amateur, no doubt, but appealing enough all the same.
The River Dysynni used to provide excellent fishing for sea trout and the occasional salmon. The river rises on the slopes of Cadair Idris and flows though Tal-y-Llyn. It probabky isn’t as long as 20 miles / 32 km.
Where would all this valuable information come from if it wasn’t for a misspent youth?

Thank you very much for keeping a close eye on my listings. I hope they are giving you as much pleasure as I have derived from gathering them together from all sorts of strange places.
One thing I notice is that many watercolours have suffered from being damp for long time.
There is little one can do about foxing, unless you are prepared to take the risk of trying to use Chloramine T which is both risky potentially dangerous to the user and does not provide a permanent solution – besides, it would not be fair to supply a painting to someone in the knowledge that it had a problem which would re-appear in time.
I think one has to accept foxing as a part of the territory of older watercolours and see past it.
This after all is why good watercolours are still affordable by comparison with oils which would be beyond the pockets of many.
I keep my paintings in clearfaced bags which allow them to breathe.
I buy the bags from a wholesaler of philatelic accessories.

Thank you very much for keeping such a close eye on my pictures.
Inevitably, the quality of the pictures I list will vary.
I look at around 2000 paintings a week, with a view to finding unusual paintings of Wales.
I find some paintings in really unusual places and also find some which are mis-described and therefore do not attract attention.
The secret is attention to detail just as it is with calligraphy.
Well there is nothing like a good start to a new week, but I am not sure that 04:00 is a good time at all.
I heard that i had started to rain.
My first thought was ‘Lucky, I will not need to water the allotment.
Then I wondered if Mrs Dai had remembered to bring the cushions in from the courtyard.
So, there is a silver lining in every cloud and today you can see it in the form of a really superb watercolour of Criccieth Castle by Harry Chase.
It is very clever, a colour wash to represent the darker, wet sand at the water’s edge, then the smallest of dots and a tiny reflection and you see wet sand – brilliant.

It just goes to show that an artist does not need to have exhibited hundreds of paintings to convince you that he is good.
The sky and the wet foreshore of this painting are absolutely brilliant in my book.
Oh, by the way, I would be very grateful if you would tell me how you came accross my site.
I have no idea how it all works, except for the fact that my paintings are being noticed by people ll over the world which is really gratifying.

Thank you very much for tking an interest in my paintings. I have nearly finished listing my Welsh paintings now. I have about 35 F*E* Taylor paintings, some of which show unusual views and then about 10 more by other artists. It is easy to lose track.
Today we are going to visit the Moma Gallery in Machynlleth with our Spanish guest. There are several exhibition areas and it is well worth a visit. Most exhibits are modern, but there is usually something to appeal to most tastes. I am not very keen on the Tracy Emin type of art though. I wish she would revert to what I call art, but it probably would not make her enough money.
The gallery also has some works by Sir Kyffin Williams which I love looking at.

Now I am on fibre which is actually slower than the ADS system I had before, but thankfully the fibre system has not dropped once since they conncted it.
Now I am going to start uploading details onto some of the other sites. I shall probably start with https://UniqueEngland.wordpress.com and do one ot two for each of the others.
I still have one or two Welsh paintings to list, and then will list more as I obtain them.

Thank you very much for looking at H*M* Bates’ painting of the Mawddach Estuary, Barmouth. I hope he derived as much pleasure from painting it as it should give viewers nearly 100 years later.
It was unfortunate that the details were all annotated in pencil on the birch plywood back board which may have been infested with woodworm (anobium punctata) eggs before it was used to back the frame. There were lots of very signs of very small tunnels and one large one which must have been that of the remains of an adult beetle, about 3 mm long, which I found between the mount and the glass. There was a hole from the back board, through the backing card of the painting and thr ‘flight hole’ exited through the front of the bevel-cut mount.
It was lucky that there was no damage to the painting itself.
I have now begun to work on other parts of UniquePaintingsofWales but have spent 3 days trying to programme a search system for the LIBRARY of ARTISTS. The wordpress expert I have been working with was brilliant but she disovered that there is a bug in the Page Jump To system.
The bug causes all the Target Text (Anchor) coding to disappear every time you try to update. In my case it was more than 100 lines of coding each time!
The result is that it will be necessary to scroll down through the alphabetic list to look for what you want – for the moment anyway.
So its just the details of 1000 artists and bulding to enter now!
